After weeks of tension, schemes and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This article discloses details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, audiences saw murders, double-crosses, serious side-eye, and an unforgettable incident that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the final winner of the first celebrity edition was revealed.
From nineteen participants, just a handful were left standing: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a shocking result that went viral and left him emotional.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," stated a different person, while someone else described it as "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep all the prize money, with the final pot amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
But his win still left the nation in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off a masterclass in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players summed up the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have appeared to the morning meal in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"The majority didn't target him because how does one vote for a person so charming?" questioned a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the show.
"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would work again!"
The final episode was extended to over an hour on the network. There was an unusual opening than usual, as every celebrity were aware who would appear at the morning gathering.
There was particularly inspiring, and atypical for the show music, as the episode revisited some moments from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
As ever, the comedian gave us unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I began this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've betrayed some really good friends under the bus, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm a better liar and player than I thought."
Meanwhile, a different player commented that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than playing for England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have lasted this long.
In the beginning of the finale, several players seemed to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, replacing an earlier departed style leader.
The winner appeared at breakfast looking like a vintage television personality in patterned burgundy attire, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
But he was outstyled by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Next up was the competition, with the final players boarding a locomotive called - naturally - The Traitors Express.
This task saw them ripping up portraits of former contestants. Have sympathy for one participant who managed to get hit in the head multiple times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Before long, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, vowing to support each other. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," stated one, while their partner simply laughed.
However, one adhered to his promise. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor looked like he was in a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want that player to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," wrote another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to focus on their elimination. Soon, they were at the final stage - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The final four gathered around the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be betrayed at the final moment in that manner," remarked the eliminated player. Later, it was revealed that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
One player, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by another, and it all came down to the third, who made the identical choice - which meant that the traitor was the winner.
According to commentators, the scene where the other players comforted the winner was "compelling television". "I predict it could be in the running for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they said.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," the winner said.
He also joked about that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by reaching over the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, plotting and the occasional surprising incidents may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
