Brandon Thomas-Asante scored a first-half double as Coventry eased to a 5-0 triumph at beleaguered the home team, putting them in first place of the table for at least a few hours. Wednesday followers again protested against the ownership of Dejphon Chansiri.

Fast Start for Coventry

Coventry City started on the front foot when Thomas-Asante tapped in from close quarters in the opening moments after Sheffield's backline failed to deal with a corner.

The match was interrupted after 10 minutes when a section of the crowd ran onto the field to demonstrate against Chansiri, following the revelation that wage payments had been delayed for the fifth occasion in seven months.

Sustained Dominance

The Sky Blues kept up the pressure and it paid off when a Wednesday defender was dispossessed and Thomas-Asante seized the opportunity with a fine low finish into the far corner from inside the area.

The Wednesday goalkeeper produced a fine stop towards the conclusion of the first period to prevent a third for the visitors, reacting quickly to parry a near-post attempt from Ephron Mason-Clark, who had met a drilled pass from his teammate. The relief did not last long, however, as the visitors made it three in injury time before the break.

A Coventry midfielder delivered the cross into the area, it was headed on by the striker and a defender's far-post header was moving towards the net, but another attacker turned it home from point-blank range. It looked to be offside and there were fierce objections from the Wednesday players, but the referee allowed the goal.

Continued Dominance

The replacement Ellis Simms scored the fourth after the 68th minute when he hammered a teammate's driven pass into the net after being left free at the back post. Subsequently, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto made it 5-0, drilling home after the defence could not clear a free-kick, as the visitors stretched their undefeated run to nine games.

Other Championship Action

Harrison Burrows missed a late penalty for beleaguered the Blades as Hull notched their third success of the season, emerging 1-0 victors at the their home ground. David Akintola gave Hull a first-half lead after the half-hour mark before the Blades’ Gustavo Hamer hit the upright.

Hull protected their advantage for the majority of the second period and Hamer was kept out on multiple times before the Hull goalkeeper denied the Blades when he kept out the penalty.

Augustus Kargbo netted his maiden strike for Blackburn to earn a 1-1 tie against Stoke. The Blackburn team seemed headed for a loss after Million Manhoef grabbed the opener in the second half. But Rovers fought back and Kargbo, who had been criticized for his role in a previous goal, fired home an equalizer from close range.

The goalscorer rattled the frame before the conclusion as Rovers nearly snatched a late win, but they will be thankful to have earned a merited draw. By contrast, the Stoke manager will question how his Stoke side squandered their control of the game and they are now on a four-match winless run league matches.

Previous Fixture

In the weekend's first match, the Red Dragons drew 1-1 for the third time in a row against the Blues, causing the coach to remark that his squad is finding its feet. George Dobson scored the first goal inside 13 minutes, but Patrick Roberts drew the visitors level within moments of the restart.
