Fans Demand Detainment of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the pop star are calling for that a person who jumped a barricade and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and charging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was set to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was charged.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account includes clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Fans Voice Worry Over Grande's Well-being
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote a further message on Instagram.
A number of fans also criticised security officers at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande looked surprised when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had queued for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual adaptation of the well-known theatrical show Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, winning a pair for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
