A campaign is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project hopes to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.

A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”

Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.

“It has a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Production History and Featured Artists

The single was laid down after a major charity concert held in the autumn. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.

The impressive roster of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a range of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the benefit event, which managed to collect a significant sum for humanitarian aid.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was brought to life by a team of music creators. The song features a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.

The organizers behind the campaign have stated that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“We haven't set a specific target,” a figure said. “We aim for as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”

The reality in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.

“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”

The song is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from later in the month.
